Orchestra Victoria

The Turn of the Screw with Victorian Opera

One of the most dramatically appealing English operas, Benjamin Britten's The Turn of the Screw, based on Henry James' original story, is a hauntingly atmospheric tale of good versus evil and natural versus the supernatural as a Governess battles for the souls of two children.

The tension and emotion in this wonderfully impressive theatrical masterpiece are paired with alluring, other-worldly music, evoking the corruption of innocence with astonishing dramatic power. Orchestra Victoria will perform Britten's beautiful and imaginative score, tinged with children's nursery rhymes and arias ranging from soaringly lyrical to highly distressed, evokes the inexorable feeling of a screw tightening as the opera builds towards its terrifying conclusion.
