Orchestra Biography
Orchestra Victoria is the Melbourne performance partner of The Australian Ballet, Opera Australia, Victorian Opera and The Production Company. In addition, the orchestra delivers free concerts and education workshops throughout the state via its Community Program. This innovative Program comprises free orchestral concerts and education workshops in metropolitan Melbourne and in Bendigo, Moe, Morwell, Shepparton, Horsham, Hamilton, Warrnambool and Mildura.
Orchestra Victoria is dedicated to making music for all Victorians and achieves this by presenting Community Program concerts in the local venues of regional and suburban centres across the state. Performances feature an exciting range of orchestral and chamber music repertoire with outstanding Orchestra Victoria musicians and guest artists as soloists. The success of the Community Program is due to the strong partnerships formed with local councils and charitable and community based organisations.
Orchestra Victoria is also dedicated to nurturing young talent. The Mentors of Orchestra Victoria Education (mOVe!) education workshops provide a free interactive learning experience for young musicians in regional Victoria. The orchestra creates performance opportunities for young and upcoming soloists through its Community Program Concerts. Orchestra Victoria also supports performance opportunities for young soloists and composers through the premiere of the winning composition from the 3MBS National Composer Award, the Symphony Australia Composer Workshop program and the Herald Sun Aria Competition.
Delivering around 200 performances to almost 250,000 people throughout Melbourne and regional Victoria each year, Orchestra Victoria is one of Australia’s busiest orchestras.
Strong leadership by Artistic Director & Co-Concertmaster Jo Beaumont ensures Orchestra Victoria’s creative excellence.
