Opera Australia

Orchestra Victoria performs all Melbourne seasons with Opera Australia in the Arts Centre, State Theatre.

Eight opera productions are staged each year in Melbourne, four in the autumn season and three in the spring season. This amounts to over 130 rehearsals and performances, and more than 370 hours of music.

In addition, Orchestra Victoria musicians perform with Opera Australia's OzOpera - performing in venues ranging from theatres to aircraft hangars to communities Australia-wide.

Opera seasons are particularly intense for the members of the Orchestra, with their rigorous rehearsal and performance schedules. It is not unusual for them to perform a long Wagner or Handel opera one night, then attend a rehearsal the next morning for a different opera, only to perform yet another opera that evening.
