The AFL has produced some of the nation’s most celebrated sporting heroes. In the exciting lead up to this year’s premiership battle, Orchestra Victoria honours heroes, in both sport and art, with an uplifting concert at the Melbourne Town Hall on 24 September.
Orchestra Victoria takes the audience on a journey into the tragedy of Hamlet, the treacherous ways of famous lover and villain Don Juan and the vengeance of William Tell, the bold hunter who successfully shot an arrow through an apple on his son’s head. This famous feat launched Switzerland’s quest for independence. Orchestra Victoria performs an energetic program of music written especially for these romantic heroes under the baton of international guest conductor Alexander Shelley. This acclaimed twenty-nine year old English conductor is rapidly becoming recognised as one of the most creative musical talents of his generation.
Artistic Director Jo Beaumont said “Everyone has a hero, whether your hero is artistic, athletic, revolutionary, humanitarian or other. Heroes inspire us all. Orchestra Victoria is dedicated to inspiring Victorians through music and is thrilled to present this concert at such an exciting time in Melbourne.”
City of Melbourne Lord Mayor Robert Doyle will welcome the audience. He said “Victorians love their footy and culture. We invite locals and visitors to enjoy exhilarating music with Orchestra Victoria in the heart of the city at our magnificent Melbourne Town Hall.”
