Concertmaster Appointment

After an extensive search, Orchestra Victoria is delighted to announce the appointment of Adam Chalabi as Concertmaster!

The violinist currently calls Switzerland home as the Principal 2nd Violin of the Zurich Chamber Orchestra.

Adam Chalabi said “The appointment as leader of Orchestra Victoria is an honour and a challenge that excites me enormously. I look forward to working together with one of Australia’s leading ensembles, to maintain the high standard of performance of the orchestra whilst bringing fresh impulse and vision.”

Orchestra Victoria’s Artistic Director Jo Beaumont said “This is a very exciting announcement for the Orchestra. Adam Chalabi has a strong background in symphonic and chamber music. He is an inspiring concertmaster. We are very pleased to welcome Adam to Orchestra Victoria.”

A Concertmaster leads the first violin section of an orchestra, performs solo violin parts and provides a vital link between the conductor and orchestra. A Concertmaster must be a virtuoso player as well as a strong leader.

Adam’s first performance as Orchestra Victoria Concertmaster will be on 6 August 2009 under the baton of Principal Guest Conductor Marko Letonja at the 3MBS Classically Melbourne concert with Orchestra Victoria. This annual concert at Hamer Hall, the Arts Centre has been presented by Orchestra Victoria, 3MBS FM and the Arts Centre as a gift to Melbourne for 10 years.
