Orchestra Victoria Education in the Latrobe Valley

46 young musicians and local music educators from the Latrobe and Gippsland region have an exceptional opportunity to fine-tune their skills and experience the challenges and excitement of playing in a full orchestra next week when Orchestra Victoria visits Traralgon to deliver the highly anticipated Orchestra Victoria Education Workshops on 13 & 14 October.

Under the expert guidance of Orchestra Victoria musicians and conductor Stephen Williams, local students and educators will come together for an intense two day workshop. They will enhance their musical skills before performing a selection of works in a fantastic free concert for the community at Lavalla Catholic College at 6.30pm on Wednesday 14 October.

This inspiring and moving concert provides a rare opportunity for the local students to showcase their new skills and for the community to enjoy the sounds of a full orchestra featuring local rising stars and Orchestra Victoria musicians playing together under the experienced baton of Stephen Williams.

Since Orchestra Victoria first visited Traralgon 6 years ago to deliver the highly regarded Education Program, more than 295 local students and teachers from the region have participate in this unique and rewarding program.

Orchestra Victoria, in association with Latrobe City Council, is delighted to deliver this free workshop to participants from far and wide across the Latrobe and Gippsland region. Participants include students from Bairnsdale Secondary College, Catholic College Sale, Chairo Christian School, Gippsland Grammar, Korumburra Secondary College, Lakes Entrance Secondary College, Lavalla Catholic College, Lowanna College, Nagle College Bairnsdale, Sale College and Trafalgar High School.

Orchestra Victoria’s Artistic Director Jo Beaumont said “It is so important for students in regional Victoria to be exposed to the musical and cultural possibilities that students in the cities are fortunate enough to have at their doorstep. It is the great pleasure of Orchestra Victoria to work with these students and give them a slice of what I see as a very essential educational and cultural experience.”

Since the Education program first began in 2003 in Traralgon and Bendigo, this very successful free program has now been rolled out across the State, thanks to Orchestra Victoria’s donors and supporters. Workshops are now held each year in Bendigo, Shepparton, Hamilton, Sunshine and Mildura.
