Arts Centre Melbourne Accessibility
Venue Entry

Arts Centre Melbourne has three buildings – the Theatres Building, Hamer Hall and Sidney Myer Music Bowl.

The Theatres Building (the building with the spire) has two main entry points – the main front doors on St Kilda Rd and via the Arts Centre Melbourne carpark. All levels in the building can be reached via stairs or lift. There are also escalators between level 6 (street level) and level 5 (the main foyer and the level you enter from the carpark).

Hamer Hall (the big round building on the banks of the Yarra) has one main entry point – the main front doors on St Kilda Rd. These doors can be reached without stairs via St Kilda Rd, or via an outdoor lift between Southbank Promenade and St Kilda Rd (just before the base of the Princes Bridge). All levels in the venue can be reached via stairs or lift, and there are escalators between levels 6 and 2.

Disability Discrimination Act Compliant Venue

All of Meat Market’s venue spaces are accessible and D.D.A. compliant. While our spaces are D.D.A. compliant, areas with cobblestone floors can be slightly bumpy due to their uneven surface.

Wheelchair Access - more info needed

All levels of Arts Centre Melbourne’s Theatres Building and Hamer Hall are wheelchair accessible. The Channel (located on the Yarra River side of Hamer Hall) is also wheelchair accessible. Both levels of the Arts Centre Melbourne car park are wheelchair accessible. Accessible parking bays are available on both levels.

Wheelchair spaces are available at all events, subject to availability. Bookings can be made online or via phone, 1300 182 183.

Complimentary Wheelchairs

Visitors can book a wheelchair to use for the duration of their visit to assist with travel throughout Arts Centre Melbourne buildings. This service is available free of charge. Please contact Arts Centre Melbourne directly at 1300 182 183 or [email protected]. These wheelchairs cannot be taken offsite.

Assistive listening devices - are we allowed to use?

An Assistive Hearing system is available in Arts Centre Melbourne's major venues (State Theatre, Playhouse, Fairfax Studio, Hamer Hall and Sidney Myer Music Bowl). Devices that allow access to this Loop – neck loops for people with hearing aids, or standard headphones for people without hearing aids – are available free of charge for use during events, meetings or guided tours. You will be asked to leave a drivers licence, or similar identity card, for the duration of the loan. Please contact Arts Centre Melbourne at 1300 182 183 for more information

Assistance animals and guide dogs

Assistance Animals are welcome in all areas of Arts Centre Melbourne and water bowls are available on request.

Please be aware that the venue can be a noisy and busy environment, so you may want to consider the use of an alternative aid when attending a show.
Quiet spaces - copied from TAB

Meat Market does not have a dedicated quiet space. During the show, the foyers are quiet, well-lit and have seating available. There are aisle seats available for booking in case a quick exit is required.

Orchestra Victoria currently has soft, in-ear earplugs available for patrons upon request. Ask a Front of House staff member for assistance.

Please call our customer experience team on 9694 3607 or email [email protected] for assistance booking.
