About Anna

Anna Pokorny is a versatile and dedicated cellist whose work encompasses symphonic, chamber, operatic, and contemporary performance across Australia and internationally. She has performed extensively with leading orchestras including the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Western Australian Symphony and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. Anna performed regularly with Orchestra Victoria for many years before joining the cello section full time in 2026.

Alongside her orchestral work, Anna maintains a strong commitment to chamber music. She is a core member of the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra cello section and has toured nationally with the Australian Chamber Orchestra. As a chamber musician, she has been invited to perform at prominent festivals including the Adam International Chamber Music Festival, Bangalow Festival, Ukaria concert series, Music by the Springs, and the Perth International Arts Festival.

Anna’s musical interests extend to both historical and modern performance practice. She has performed extensively on gut strings with ensembles such as the Australian Chamber Orchestra and Wattleseed Ensemble, and has recorded contemporary Australian works including Lachlan Skipworth’s Piano Quartet and chamber music by Rachel Bruerville.

Her training includes studies at the University of Western Australia (Dr Suzanne Wijsman) the Australian National Academy of Music (Howard Penny), and the International Menuhin Music Academy in Switzerland (Niall Brown).
