Charlie Kinross HR 5956

Nurturing the Next Generation of Orchestral Artists

In 2018, Orchestra Victoria and Lady Potter AC CMRI established The Richard Bonynge Orchestral Fellowship to honour the extraordinary legacy of Maestro Richard Bonynge AC CBE — a towering figure in the world of ballet and opera.

Each year, this prestigious Fellowship offers emerging string musicians a rare opportunity to train and perform alongside a professional orchestra, immersed in the rich traditions of opera and ballet.

Our Fellows gain:

  • Firsthand experience performing with The Australian Ballet, Opera Australia, and Victorian Opera
  • Personalised mentorship from Orchestra Victoria’s world-class musicians
  • Opportunities to tour regionally and engage with communities across Victoria
  • The chance to refine their ensemble skills in our Chamber Music Series
  • Access to The Australian Ballet’s renowned Artistic Health team

The Richard Bonynge Orchestral Fellowship is a launchpad for the next generation of artists who will shape the future of music in Australia.

Stay tuned as we share the stories of our inspiring Fellows and the extraordinary impact of this program.

"This fellowship is a tribute to my dear friend Richard Bonynge, who has quietly achieved so much for orchestras globally. His efforts have masterly developed the specialist techniques required by orchestral musicians to meet the unique abilities to perform and support ballet and opera repertoire. This specialised skillset is crucial for young artists to master if they wish to lead a professional career as an orchestral musician." Lady Potter AC CMRI
