About Ben

Benjamin Anderson grew up in Melbourne and began playing tenor trombone in high school before moving on to bass trombone in his first year of university. He holds both Bachelor and Masters of Music degrees from the University of Melbourne, is a graduate of the National University of Singapore, where he lived for two years, and completed a year of the professional performance program at the Australian National Academy of Music. Ben has performed with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, Macao Orchestra, and the Singapore, Melbourne, and New Zealand Symphony Orchestras, and has played solo recitals in Singapore and New York. He has been the recipient of the Frank Barzyck Prize, the Donald William Thornton Bequest, a Global Atelier Postgraduate Travelling Scholarship and the Jim Marks Postgraduate Scholarship. As an educator Ben works at the University of Melbourne, the Australian National Academy of Music, and regularly also works with the Australian Youth Orchestra and Melbourne Youth Music across different programs. Ben is also an avid performer of contemporary classical music, exemplified in his role as one half of Ossicle Duo, an experimental trombone and percussion ensemble. Ben is currently undertaking a PhD in performance at the University of Melbourne, focussing on collaborative relationship with composers.
