About Binny

Born in Seoul, South Korea in 1968, Binny cites a combination of “curiosity and Korean parents” as his reason for taking up the violin at the age of six. He studied with Y.Kim at Seoul National University for his Bachelor of Music and, after moving to Australia in 1995, studied with Bill Hennessy at the University of Melbourne for his Masters. He has toured Austria with the Seoul Chamber Orchestra and Japan with Korea’s KBS National Symphony Orchestra. He is musically inspired by David Oistrakh, whom Binny describes as “an ‘old school’ unflappable violinist with extraordinary technique and tone.” He loves performing Mozart’s operas and advises aspiring musicians to “ask yourself if a career in music is what you want. If the answer is yes, then build resilience and prepare to work hard.”
