About James
Born in Sydney, Australia, cellist James Churchill recently returned home after a decade in North America. He is a recent alumnus of the New World Symphony in Miami, where he held a fellowship under the artistic direction of Michael Tilson Thomas.
Mr. Churchill has performed with distinguished ensembles including Orchestra Victoria and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and has appeared regularly as a substitute musician with the Sarasota Orchestra, as well as the North Carolina and Charlotte Symphony Orchestras.
He completed an Artist Diploma at the Glenn Gould School in Toronto and holds a Bachelor’s degree from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in Singapore, where he studied with Li-Wei Qin. His earlier training includes studies at the Australian National Academy of Music under the tutelage of Howard Penny and Nicholas Bochner.
