About Will

Australian harpist Will Nichols joined Orchestra Victoria as Section Principal Harp in 2025. A gifted harpist, he was first engaged regularly to perform as Guest Principal Harp in the West Australian Symphony Orchestra at the age of 22. During this time he has performed under renowned international conductors including Simone Young, Asher Fisch, Pietari Inkinen, Vasily Petrenko and Dalia Stasevska.

With playing described as “expertly dreamy” (Limelight Magazine) and “crystalline” (The West Australian), Will has also performed as Guest Principal Harp in the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Queensland Symphony Orchestra and New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. He performed as Principal Harp in the Australian Youth Orchestra for the 2015 and 2018 seasons.

Will began harp studies at the age of four with Bronwyn Wallis in Perth, Western Australia. When graduating from high school he was awarded the Music Exhibition Prize for achieving the highest mark in the Year 12 ATAR Music Course in Western Australia. He was awarded the Greenberg-Gurney-Jensen Scholarship to study under renowned harpist Alice Giles AM at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Upon graduating with a Bachelor of Music (Performance), he was awarded the John Cassim Prize for music and twice awarded the Academic Merit Prize. He has been a featured soloist with Ensemble Apex, Willoughby Symphony Orchestra, and Cygnus Arioso
