A message from Orchestra Victoria's General Manager Jacinta Ewers

Welcome to Indie Symphony!

This project has been in the making since 2021 and we are thrilled to perform it to you tonight. Video games have become an important and valuable part of our life over the last few decades and tonight Orchestra Victoria brings to life musical scores from Indie games both Australian and international for a show that is sure to delight the senses.

Before I go any further I would like to thank our ongoing government supporters, Creative Australia and Creative Victoria as well as VicScreen, whose support has assisted in staging this concert. I also extend my thanks to our valued philanthropic supporters, we appreciate their ongoing support for Orchestra Victoria.

Indie Symphony brings together a myriad of exciting musical ideas and storylines that uplift and amplify the games they belong to. Orchestra Victoria is perfectly placed to perform these works live. As a primarily opera and ballet orchestra our musicians are used to bringing together different artforms to tell a story that is a greater than the sum of its parts. Tonight, you will hear the weaving of our delicate woodwinds, the triumph of our brass, the drive of our percussion and the lushness of our strings alongside footage from each of the games.

I would also like to draw your attention to our composers this evening, Lena Raine, Jessica Curry, Austin Wintory, Darren Korb, Kevin Penkin and Christopher Larkin. These artists have crafted these musical tales alongside the gameplay. These compositions have been cleverly orchestrated by Jessica Wells and Austin Wintory to create the works you will see performed tonight.

A big thank you to all our guest artists who join us this evening and to all the Orchestra Victoria staff who have worked tirelessly to bring you this concert.

Sit back, relax and enjoy,
Jacinta Ewers
