Colin Forbes-Abrams

As an active Trans-Tasman freelance musician Colin has held long-term contracts with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. Colin has featured on award winning recordings including with Wynton Marselis (The Jungle) and Flight Facilities (Live with the MSO). Colin also works regularly with the Victorian Opera company, the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra and all of New Zealand’s regional orchestras including his beloved hometown band - the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra.

A graduate of the New Zealand School of Music, Colin studied with former NZSO principal contrabassoon and current conductor-in-residence Hamish McKeich and MSO principal contrabassoon Brock Imison. A passionate music educator - Colin regularly tutors at the Australian Youth Orchestra and AYO Young Symphonists, NZSO National Youth Orchestra and universities and conservatories across Australia and New Zealand.
