Orchestra Victoria acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Boon Wurrung people of the Eastern Kulin Nations. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present, and to all First Nations people across Australia, whose traditions of music making and storytelling have continued on this land for millenia.
It is a great pleasure to welcome you to this unique collaboration between Orchestra Victoria and ACMI: a celebration of two extraordinary Australian video games, Team Cherry's Hollow Knight and Hollow Knight: Silksong.
These games have captivated audiences around the world through their brilliant game design, and storytelling underpinned by Christopher Larkin's deeply evocative music. Tonight, that music steps out of the console and into the concert space, newly arranged and performed live by musicians of Orchestra Victoria, in real dialogue with Vichisuki’s live gameplay on screen.
What makes this event so exciting is its spirit of collaboration and risk: live gameplay is unpredictable, dynamic and virtuosic in its own right. Pairing it with live orchestral performance creates an experience that is immediate, cinematic and utterly singular: no two performances are ever quite the same.
At Orchestra Victoria, we are passionate about exploring new ways for orchestral music to connect with audiences and delighted to partner with ACMI for a third time to co-create a program that celebrates Australian video game music. Projects like this highlight the remarkable artistry that exists within Australia’s creative industries: the combined talents of composers, game developers, musicians, orchestrators, producers, sound designers, streamers, and technical staff were all essential to bringing this performance to life.
Whether you are a veteran explorer of Hallownest and Pharloom, a dedicated listener of video game music, or discovering these worlds for the first time, we are delighted to share this experience with you.
Enjoy the journey!
